이 볼캡은 약 1년에 걸친 준비 과정을 거쳐 완성된 피터캣의 샵 익스클루시브 제품입니다. 제품은 기본적인 코튼 트윌 볼캡을 제작한 뒤, 오키나와 전통 인디고인 ‘류큐아이(琉球藍)’를 사용하여 염색하는 방식으로 완성되었습니다. 류큐아이는 일본 본토의 타데아이 계열 인디고와는 발효 방식과 색의 톤에서 차이를 보이며, 보다 맑고 투명한 푸른빛을 띠는 것이 특징입니다. 스쿠모 인디고가 깊고 무게감 있는 톤을 형성한다면, 류큐아이는 산뜻하고 자연스러운 블루 계열의 색을 만들어냅니다.

本製品のボールキャップは、約1年にわたる準備期間を経て完成した Peter Cat のショップエクスクルーシブアイテムです。まずコットンツイルのキャップを制作し、その後沖縄に伝わる伝統的な藍「琉球藍」を用いて後染めする方法で仕上げています。琉球藍は、本土のタデ藍系インディゴと比べて発酵方法や色調に違いがあり、より澄んだ透明感のある青色を呈するのが特徴です。スクモ藍が深く落ち着いたトーンを生むのに対し、琉球藍は軽やかで自然なブルーを生み出します。
完成したキャップを染める後染め方式は、原糸染めや織りの段階で色を入れる方法とは異なり、表面と内部に微妙なムラや揺らぎが生まれ、独自の表情を形作ります。コットンツイル素材は染色後も形状と質感が安定しており、日常使いに適しています。また、光の当たり方や角度によって青色の見え方が変化するのも琉球藍特有の魅力です。

This ball cap is a Peter Cat shop-exclusive item completed after nearly a year of development. The cap is first constructed using cotton twill, then finished through a post-dyeing process using Ryukyu indigo, a traditional plant-based indigo from Okinawa. Ryukyu indigo differs from mainland Japanese tade-ai indigo in its fermentation method and tonal character, producing a clearer and more transparent shade of blue. While sukumo indigo tends to create deeper, weightier tones, Ryukyu indigo yields a lighter and more natural blue.
Because the cap is dyed after construction rather than using yarn-dye or woven-dye methods, subtle irregularities and tonal shifts appear on the surface and within the fabric. These natural variations give the cap a unique expression that cannot be achieved through uniform chemical dyeing. The cotton twill structure remains stable after dyeing, providing durability and comfort for everyday wear. Depending on lighting and viewing angle, the blue tone may shift slightly, reflecting the distinctive character of Ryukyu indigo.
Due to the nature of the dyeing process, each piece may display slight differences in depth of color, faint mottling, or gentle gradation. These variations are inherent to traditional plant-based dyeing and should be regarded as unique characteristics rather than imperfections. Exact color reproduction is difficult, which is also part of the identity of Ryukyu indigo dyeing.
