승평요(昇平窯) X PETER CAT 찻잔

이번에 제작한 찻잔은 내가 평소 즐겨 마시는 차에 맞춰 기획한, 오직 피터캣(Peter Cat)만을 위해 개인적으로 의뢰한 특별한 작품이다. 커피용 머그잔처럼 크지도 않고, 에스프레소 잔처럼 작지도 않은 더블 에스프레소 잔 정도의 크기를 원했다. 이는 잎차 같은 전통 차를 작은 컵으로 빠르게 비우고 여러 번 우려내는 문화에 적합하기 때문이다. 형태와 색감은 승평요에서 이전에 만든 불규칙한 형태의 작업에서 영감을 받아, 정형화된 틀 대신 각도마다 다른 재미를 주는 자연스러운 변화를 담았다. 화려한 장식 대신 재료 본연의 질감과 작가의 손길을 그대로 살렸고, 이는 달항아리에서 드러나는 불완전 속의 조화로움과 닮아 있다. 이번 찻잔은 달항아리의 이야기를 잇는 동시에, 피터캣에서만 만날 수 있는 단 하나의 특별한 작품이다.

今回製作した茶碗は、普段から好んで飲むお茶に合わせて企画したもので、ピターキャット(Peter Cat)だけのために個人的に依頼した特別な作品である。コーヒーマグのように大きすぎず、エスプレッソカップのように小さすぎない、ダブルエスプレッソ程度のサイズを求めた。葉茶などの伝統的なお茶は大きなカップだとすぐに冷めてしまうため、小さな器で何度も淹れて飲むのが自然である。形や色は勝平窯で過去に作られた不規則な形の作品から着想を得て、定型ではなく角度によって異なる表情を見せる自然な変化を取り入れた。華やかな装飾ではなく、素材そのものの質感と作家の手跡を残した造形だけで表現しており、これは月壺に見られる不完全さの中の調和を思わせる。この茶碗は、その物語を継ぎながら、ピターキャットだけで出会える唯一の作品である。

This teacup was created specifically for Peter Cat, commissioned to reflect the way I usually enjoy tea. I wanted a size that was neither as large as a coffee mug nor as small as an espresso cup—closer to a double espresso. This suits the culture of loose-leaf tea, where smaller cups allow one to drink quickly and re-infuse multiple times before the tea cools. Its form and tone were inspired by earlier irregular works from Seungpyeongyo, designed to show shifting expressions from every angle rather than a fixed, uniform shape. Instead of decorative glazing, the piece highlights the raw texture of the clay and the maker’s hand, echoing the moon jar’s harmony born from imperfection. This cup continues that story while also standing as a one-of-a-kind piece that exists only at Peter Cat.
